The Galvenize Civic Fellows Program

The Galvenize Civic Fellows program is an initiative of the American Leadership Forum Houston/Gulf Coast, Vision Galveston, and The Cynthia and George Mitchell Foundation. This program aims to enhance the leadership capacities of Galveston’s community leaders to amplify their impact and leadership journey.

Our program offers an innovative approach to equip Galveston’s civic leaders with adaptive leadership skills, empowering them to navigate complex challenges with confidence and creativity. Rooted in the belief that community offers powerful lessons in adaptation and resilience, our initiative blends the principles of adaptive leadership with asset-based community development to elevate the impact of civic-minded leaders.

Through critical frameworks and engaging dialogue, participants will explore strategic thinking and innovative problem-solving techniques tailored to address Galveston’s unique civic challenges. Our program aims to cultivate strong connections among emerging civic leaders and serves as a platform for fostering a sense of community, encouraging collaboration, and sparking cross-pollination of ideas among participants.

Our goal is to equip participants with the tools and strategies necessary to effect positive, lasting change in our Galveston Island community.

Together, we will build a network of empowered leaders committed to shaping the future of Galveston.

The Galvenize Civic Fellows Program Components

Leveraging ALF’s distinctive blend of adaptive leadership, emergent strategy frameworks, and facilitated dialogue methods, this intensive program seeks to bridge the existing gap between community leaders, municipal resources, and the evolving concept of leadership and agency. The program addresses the fundamental notion that leadership transcends titles or formal positions, advocating that anyone can access their potential by recognizing strengths and addressing challenges in their communities.

Facilitated Dialogue

Dialogue sessions will equip participants with the tools necessary to develop meaningful relationships and networks across diverse identities, backgrounds, and sectors. The emphasis will be on building a strong, supportive network that extends beyond the program duration, creating a lasting and impactful community of leaders.

Connection & Collaboration

Sessions will be specifically designed to bridge across differences. By actively engaging in open, honest conversations and exploring shared experiences, leaders will forge enduring bonds that transcend traditional divides and lay the groundwork for future collaboration and partnership.

Civic Leadership Frameworks

The program is grounded in leading critical frameworks for leadership development and community development. Developing an understanding of adaptive leadership, emergence, and asset-based approaches will prepare participants to navigate complexity, adapt to ever-changing circumstances, and collectively strategize for community growth.
